Die ehemalige Malzfabrik I

The former malt factory I

On the outskirts of the village there is a monumental eight-story brick building that was once a malt factory. The access was free and the way up through dark cellar corridors led through many empty floors until we found a store of grain on one floor. A ventilation system could also be seen in a GDR extension.

The Actien-Malzfabrik, founded in 1889, was built directly on a railway line and what was once the largest freight station in the district and got its own siding. In 1918 the Actien-Malzfabrik Könnern took over the local malt factory. The malt factory supplied breweries and also produced malt coffee. After the fall of the Wall, that came out quickly and the factory was shut down.
