Prenzlauer Berg water reservoir

As the first modern water supply system in Berlin, the small water reservoir was built in 1853-1856 and the large one from 1871. Both were first built on the surface and then covered with earth. From 1914 on, the facilities were taken out of service and used as storage rooms. During the Second World War, the small water reservoir was converted into an air raid shelter. They then served, among other things, as a warehouse for fish, food and, during the GDR era, for "West vehicles". Today the culture office "Förderband" looks after the water reservoirs. In summer, for example, cultural events related to the area take place there.
