NSA listening station on Teufelsberg

The former NSA listening station on Teufelsberg in Grunewald is a really exciting location. You probably also know them as a backdrop for many films. I visited the Lost Place with friends as part of an official tour. You can book here: https://teufelsberg-berlin.de/

Of course, the guide told us in detail the history of the Teufelsberg and the background to the current state of use.

Construction of the "Defense Technology Faculty" began on the site in 1937, but was abandoned at the beginning of 1940 due to the war. Here the Nazis planned to build a huge university center: the university town.

After the war, trucks tipped over until 1972  a total of 16,181,310  Cubic meters of rubble. The American allies soon showed interest in the mountain, as they discovered that it was here that radio communications from the Soviets to Moscow and the GDR authorities could be eavesdropped. The NSA installed four radomes in which satellite dishes rotated and were broadcast by the radio signals. The facility was of course top secret. In the interesting spy series "Germany 83" (available on Amazon Prime) you can get an insight into the way the station works. In 1992 the Americans left the mountain and handed the empty buildings over to the Senate, which sold the mountain in 1996. Since then, all plans to develop the property have failed.
